Where are the big red trees?

Kevin and Dad took a boys trip to Big Basin Redwoods State Park this weekend. For the entire car ride to Big Basin, about 45 minutes from our house, Kevin asked “where are the big red trees?”  I think he was hoping for fire engine red.

We made a brief stop on the way to take in the view of the Santa Cruz mountains and fog hanging over the valley.

Once we got to the park, the first order of business was to find a place to sit and eat our bagels. We found a big amphitheatre made of fallen redwoods and enjoyed our snacks.

Next, we took a 1/2 mile hike on the Redwood trail. Kevin ran most of the way. When he did stop, he took the opportunity to pose with some really big trees!

Toward the end of the loop, we found a fallen tree and took a break.

Once we were done with the hike, Kevin was hungry again and while snacking on the fence he saw some motorcycles….so our trip ended with 10 minutes of motorcycle gawking 🙂

Wow, could this have had a more perfect ending?

I’ve been past Big Basin a million times, but have never gone in. I didn’t realize they had giant trees in there. Now it’s on my list.
