Year end road trip
Over the Christmas/New Years holidays we didn’t have any big travel plans. We had hoped to go ski but mother nature decided not to cooperate on delivering snow. The boys were getting restless after a week off school so Heather and I decided on the spur of the moment to take a road trip over New Years Day.
First stop on our excellent road trip was Pinnacles National Park. Just say the word “cave” to any young boy and they will be ready to go hike. We packed up a lunch and a handful of flashlights and headed off on our 2 mile round trip hike. (After a 2 hour drive south from our home). Along the trail we saw a lot of interesting rock formations and plenty of small rocks for the boys to climb. At the end of our loop was a cave that required flashlights and careful footing. The boys had a great time. Ryan used up the rest of his energy walking back to the parking lot and proceeded to nap as we drove south to Pismo Beach for the evening.
We spent the next 2 days enjoying summer like weather at Pismo Beach, San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. The boys got to make sand castles, climb on big rocks at Morro Rock, check out where Mom went to school and even see hundreds of Monarch butterflies in Pismo Beach. It was a great, spontaneous road trip and a great start to the new year!
